The theater play in the Netherlands “De nazi en de kapper” (“The Nazi and The Barber”) is very successful, most of the theatre performances are sold out.
Edgar Hilsenrath honored the theatre group’s efforts by attending the premiere announced previously and participating at a public discussion about his work.
One of the leading Dutch newspapers, the NRC Handelsblad, published an interview with Edgar Hilsenrath, ‘Ik schrijf tegen het vergeten’, and a review of the theater play.
However, the success is accompanied by a scandal. In the city of Hoofddorp, the company in charge refuses to display posters for the theatre play (see picture below), referring to the swastika inspired scissors. Another leading Dutch newspaper, de Volkskrant, reports on this scandal: “Reclamebedrijf weigert theaterposter met hakenkruis op te hangen”. (See also the theatre group post on Facebook.)
Edgar Hilsenrath comments on this censorship as follows: “Ich finde das skandalös.” (“I find this scandalous.”)
