The theater\u00a0play in the Netherlands \u201cDe nazi en de kapper\u201d (\u201cThe Nazi and The Barber\u201d<\/a>) is very successful,\u00a0most of the theatre performances\u00a0are sold out.<\/p>\n

Edgar Hilsenrath honored the\u00a0theatre group’s efforts by attending the premiere\u00a0announced previously<\/a>\u00a0and participating at a public discussion about his\u00a0work.<\/p>\n

One of the leading Dutch newspapers, the\u00a0NRC Handelsblad<\/em>,\u00a0published\u00a0an interview with Edgar Hilsenrath,\u00a0 \u2018Ik schrijf tegen het vergeten\u2019<\/a>, and a\u00a0review of the theater play<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, the success is accompanied by a scandal. In the city of Hoofddorp, the company in charge refuses to display posters for the theatre play (see picture below), referring to\u00a0the\u00a0swastika inspired scissors. Another leading Dutch newspaper,\u00a0de Volkskrant<\/em>, reports on this scandal:\u00a0\u201cReclamebedrijf weigert theaterposter met hakenkruis op te hangen\u201d<\/a>. Edgar Hilsenrath comments\u00a0on\u00a0this censorship as follows: \u201cIch finde das skandal\u00f6s.\u201d (\u201cI find this scandalous.\u201d)<\/p>\n
